WINDOWS

When it’s time to replace your windows there is one major point that we cannot stress enough:
All windows are not the same!!!

However, when you get multiple estimates and everyone says that they have the best company in the world and the best window in the world it is very difficult to know who to believe.  Most companies carry one brand of window and are trained very well to present it as the greatest thing since sliced bread BUT if it is the only window they have, what are they going to say “buy the other guys’ window, it's better”?

Here are a few questions that should be answered before you make a decision on who to buy from:

  1. Is the window bluish white or Linen white?

A bluish white window will not match the windows exterior trim if capped with trim coil.  The trim coil matches best with a linen white vinyl to make sure it looks as uniform as possible?

  2. Does the window have a hollow frame or a multi chambered frame?

A hollow frame window will warp in a few years since it does not have much support throughout the frame.  A multi-chambered frame has quite a bit of support which means it will last for years to come.  Often times a company will take a hollow frame and disguise its flimsiness by putting Styrofoam in it and falsely boast of increased thermal efficiency.  Don’t be fooled!

  3. Is the frame re-enforced with metal for increased strength?

  4. When installing, will the company use fiberglass insulation for maximum efficiency or are they using a pre-wrap foam stapled to the frame of the window which offers minimal efficiency results?

  5. Will the company cap the exterior casings with trim coil?  If so, are they using flat painted aluminum or PVC coated trim coil?

  6. Will your window be Energy Star Rated?

If so, what kind of Low E, and was it tested through a heat lamp so you could see the results for yourself? If not, what are they hiding?

  7. What about R-Value

Original wood windows are usually an R 0.78.  Clear glass is about an R 2.  Glass with Low E is usually between an R 2-4 and yet some windows can take you to an R-10.

  8. Who is installing your windows?

A lot of attention is paid to the quality of the product but not much is said about who is doing all the work!  The greatest window in the world is useless if it is improperly installed!

  9. Most companies are insured, but what about the people doing the job? Does the company have worker’s compensation?  And if so, what about the crews working on your home?  If the company has insurance and the workers do not then who insures the workers if they get hurt?........YOU DO!!!  If something gets damaged? ……  YOU DO!!!
